pond scum :: 'mouse

I heard someone say that according to a recent survey, Realtors are a lower form of pond scum than lawyers. I’m not sure if I get much comfort from that.

Crazy Russian: Well you know, we’ve been involved for a while and when that happens obviously things need some management.

Bunni: Uh, it sounds like a 401 k plan. I mean do I need to call an accountant?

Crazy Russian: I just don’t think you are living up to your full potential.

Bunni: Because if I was I’d already have a 401 k plan.

where have all the typepad people gone, send up a flare, come baaack???? edit: oh phew, apparently it was momentary.

    TAGS:  Bent Rule Club, Typepad

My original sentence (Apparently I still have typing skills, but sadly, I seem to have lost my ability to string words together.) suddenly seemed too pathetic to send out alone, and what it needed, or so I thought, was something silly to accompany it along the way, like a Big Stan grin, or something about ducks (maybe talking ducks), or even something about the size of my head, because the mood is always lightened when accompanied by a joke about a big, misshapen head (unless you’re watching The Elephant Man and don’t want to be called a jerk for making fun of someone else’s problems, which of course will only last so long and not long afterwards you’ll find yourself saying in your best Elephant Man voice, “I am not an animal,”), and so, what I came up with was this: “I am not an animal,” the duck said to the rest of the paddling in his best Elephant Man voice, flashing a Big Stan grin at the nearest hen, who, it should be noted, merely quacked something that sounded an awful lot like, “Jerk.”

The simplicity of life. :: JadedBeauty

He sped past them on the narrow road, nearly colliding with a much smaller car and haphazardly swerving back into his own lane: Careless…reckless…possibly crazy…apparently intoxicated…“Haha, he must be more drunk than us!” As quickly as he passed, he was gone, the tail lights of the old Silvardo fading into the distance…“Where did he go!?” Neither was sure, but as it goes, everything is fine until you can prove different….But there, aproximately one mile from the foolish display of demonstration, the white truck sat smoking…It was then, they knew as they approached, it was more than probable that he was dead, but neither wanted to voice that… neither wanted to put their suspicions into truth: But he wasn’t gone, he was struggling: Broken legs, bleeding head, but ALIVE: No doubt the shots of Jaeger and the LIT’s consumed in pure haste, in the name of socialization, through fleeting feelings of immortality had numbed his body…The alcohol had allowed him to escape shock, to escape an premature fate: The other man, barely able to form proper words in his own language, let alone theirs, said, “Mi nombre es Camilo…Llama por favor, mi esposa…Mi Esposa, por favor…” And that was it, it was over…Nothing more fell from his lips as he sat trapped behind the cold, uncaring, hard steel of his own means of life, transportation, and career: The red and blue lights cast ominous shadows over the lifeless body of an innocent victim, while the catalyst, the reaper, groaned and fidgeted in his own smoking truck, “My leg, oh, I broke my leg…GET ME OUT…” And as she watched those lights, blue, red, blue, red, she came to the realization that it could have been them, tonight, tommorrow, yesterday…(I’m sorry. This is a true story to which I was unfortunate enough to play a part in tonight. If I join the Bent Rules Club tonight, so be it. R.I.P. Camilo…I’ve never had the pleasure of meeting you before the events of tonight, but I have no doubt, someone will miss you…Think before you drink and drive…I know that my sister and I will from this day on…)

Godspeed :: VanEck

“Dear Millicent, Well, my work with the UN has finally come to something - I’m being posted to their MINURSO operations in El-Aaiún in seven days. Many people see this as a dead-end operation, but I still maintain a faith in humanity that may be considered ‘zealous’ or even ‘ridiculous’ in the light of the local political situation… I just can’t abide by those who sit by and just hope that humanity sets itself right in the end: hope is not a strategy. The world will not, as I have always maintained, fix itself through the second coming of Christ: it’s up to the good men who refuse to ‘sit by and do nothing while evil triumphs’. Yep, I’ll probably get shot at. Yes, it’ll be hot and uncomfortable, and even if the proverbial does hit the fan, you won’t see me on the news, because, quite frankly, no-one gives a fucking shit about this part of the world any more. You once asked ‘why would you do this?’. Well, it’s out of a sense of duty. What fate decided that I’d wind up in a first world country, living la vida loca, whilst so much of the world gets the shitty end of the stick? It’s the least I can do, to put my arse on the line and put myself through a fraction of the shit that these other hapless bastards suffer. Anyway, I’m rambling. I’m drunk. I’m scared. I don’t even speak the language yet. And quite frankly, I consider it a bit pathetic that the only place I have to pour my fears out to is some anonymous website. If you ever get the chance, Milly, do visit cafe luxembourg in the alma mater. You promised me.All the best, to all of you. Van Eck.P.S. I know I’ve cheated (despite the perfunctory ellipses). But I always maintained that scrine should be a paragraph, and not just a single sentence. Keith, you can can my account after this. We have a satlink, but I’m told it’s for ‘important’ stuff only. No time for fun any more. Time to be a man. The world needs saving. Godspeed.”

I am sitting here in my uncomfortable wooden chair in front of a glowing screen singing a thousand nameless songs, and trying out words, hoping to accurately describe this moment, this picture in a high school history book that never made it to the publishers. It all falls on me, really, me, and this short bit of prose that is. Together we must accurately describe the stars reflected in a young girl’s eyes as she walks up the steps hand in hand with a boy that she has yet to discover, and into their first prom. And it is up to us, my fingers, this keyboard and notepad to tell the thousand untold stories, to sing the songs of a thousand lonely people who yern for their parents to be understanding. Yes, it is up to us to describe this moment - the one where all common sense is lost and we give ourselves completely.

All of my existence has been plagued by broken things. In rare optimistic moods I refer to 'adversity'. To this day I struggle with the same things, deny the same emotions. Every moment of every day of my existence I have struggled to fix what's broken; toasters, washers, curtain rods, arms, records players, vases, cupboards full of glasses and plates and bowls were the victims of my lack of coordination. Never once did I seek to blame someone else for that awful sound. But as I was an only child, who was I gonna blame? That sickening sound of two tons of metal crossing paths with two other tons of metal. some things broken on purpose, because I just wanted to hear the sound (and if the blame was mine anyway, why not be the originator? Of that sound. So I warn you, as a friend, to keep your nice things away from me.
