The student wrote so poorly that he actually tripped, fell down the stairs and wound up in a bloody pool of his own words.

I think this is how creative writing classes should be taught.  Let’s say a student turns in something profoundly insultingly mind-numbingly awful.  The teacher points to the staircase.  The student sulks out of the classroom and suddenly you hear him/her fall down the stairs, walk back up said stairs, and return to the room where they begin to revise their work with the kind of vigor and clarity that only pain can provide.
